DIY Key rings with modelling clay and Marabu pastel acrylic paints

The beautifully painted key ring pendants made of modelling clay are a cute little DIY project. You can pimp and design each key ring individually. The small pendants are of course also perfect for gifts e.g. for a christening with the name of the child. Or turn the pendants into a mobile or a wall hanging – there are so many possibilities!

Tips and Tricks

  • If the edges of the forms are frayed, smooth them out with a little water on your finger.

How it is done:

  • In the first step, roll out the modelling clay on baking paper with an acrylic roller or rolling pin - not too thin, otherwise the pendants can easily break later.
  • Cut out round circles with a cookie cutter and put them aside.
  • For the rainbows cut out half moons with a knife, if necessary using a paper template.
  • Prick small holes in the forms with a wooden skewer. Let the pendants dry for 24 hours.
  • When the moulds are dry, they can be painted in different colours. For a clean and straight edge, cover the mould with Washi Tape.

  • At the end paint a few fine lines with a little black.
  • Paint the rainbow with related colours of the same family.
