Colorful Advent wreath with Marabu DO IT Colorspray

An Advent wreath doesn’t always have to be classic green. In this project, pine and larch cones are sprayed in bright colors with DO IT Colorspray and assembled into a unique Advent wreath that brings the Advent season to life.

approx. 40 larger pine cones
approx. 80-100 smaller larch cones
wreath blank made of straw
spray pad (e. g. old cardboard)
4 candlesticks
4 stick candles
hot glue gun

How it is done:

  • Prepare all materials. The cones should be clean and dry so that the paint adheres well. Cover the spraying area well and also protect the working environment sufficiently from the spray mist of the paint. It is best to spray outside or ensure sufficient ventilation.
  • Carefully remove the actuators from the DO IT cans and remove the red safety valve. Replace the actuators and caps and shake the cans for 2-3 minutes. Spray the cans onto cardboard/newsprint first to make sure there are no solids in the actuator.
  • Divide the cones and spread them out in a cardboard box. Then spray them with the selected color sprays in bright colors. Make sure all sides of the cones are evenly coated. You can also move the cones around in the box by shaking and swirling them after the paint has dried.
  • Allow the cones to dry completely before moving on to the next step. While the cones are drying, prepare the straw wreath. It can be helpful to roughly plan the positions for the cones in advance in order to achieve a harmonious overall look later on.
  • The dried cones are now attached to the straw wreath piece by piece using the hot glue gun. Work from the outside inwards to ensure that all areas of the wreath are covered. It is particularly helpful to first attach the smaller larch cones all around the lower outer edge of the wreath. You can then continue with the larger cones.
  • When gluing on the cones, make sure to mix the colors well to create a lively and varied look. Place the candle holders in between and then fill in the gaps between the large pine cones with larch cones.
