Matt, creamy, water-based alkyd paint. Paint consists of at least 92 % raw materials of natural origin. Vegetable oil-based raw materials, vegan. Lightfast, weatherproof. Suitable for paper, cardboard, canvas, wood, MDF, stone and much more. Shake before use.
Paint application
Marabu GREEN paint is suitable for freehand painting, priming, upcycling projects and much more. The creamy paint can be applied with a brush (hair, synthetic hair or bristle brush), a sponge or a paint roller. With the GREEN, large areas can be designed easily and evenly, as the individual brush strokes placed next to each other can be easily blended together.
Pouring
Although the Pouring System is chemically not an alkyd system, the Green can be processed with the Pouring Medium. Compared to other Marabu colours, however, the processing is a little more difficult. You have to pay even more attention to mixing step by step and that the individual shades have the same consistency. A certain amount of experience is required here, so we recommend using GREEN plus Pouring to the experienced user.
Optimum preparation
The best adhesion of the paint is achieved on dry, clean, dust- and grease-free surfaces. After cleaning and before painting, the surface should dry well. Dark surfaces can be primed with white first to make the colours shine even brighter.
Suitable substrates
Marabu GREEN paint is suitable for canvas, paper, cardboard, MDF, wood, stone, glass, polystyrene, cork, leather. Our well-dried structure pastes, structure gels and media, as well as gesso can be painted with GREEN.
Thinner
Marabu GREEN paint is ready to use. If desired, it can be thinned with max. 5% water.
After-treatment
GREEN does not require any after-treatment. After drying, it adheres to the substrate without further treatment.
Opacity
Marabu GREEN paint has good opacity. To optimise the opacity and luminosity on dark backgrounds, it can be pre-primed with white.
Cleaning after use
Clean brushes and tools thoroughly with water and soap immediately after use. Wash out stains with lukewarm water and soft soap as soon as possible, before the paint can dry.
Disposal of residual paint/cleaning recommendation
In principle, the dirty water from water-based paints (e.g. the cup in which the brushes are cleaned) may be disposed of in this highly diluted form in the drain (not in the gully). Nevertheless, it is better to pollute the waste water as little as possible and to keep water consumption low. Instead of under running water, brushes should be cleaned in a water cup. Rollers, sponges and other working tools are best soaked in a bowl of water and washed out immediately after use. Leave the cup and bowl to stand for a while so that paint residue can sink. When pouring off the excess paint water, you can place a paper towel, a coffee filter or a fine sieve over the spout to catch larger paint residues. Dispose of the dregs of the bowl in the residual waste.
Upcycling - from trash to treasure
Every day we surround ourselves with a flood of different materials: milk cartons, shipping boxes, aluminium cans, old decorative objects. But wait: don't throw them away! With Marabu GREEN we simply make something beautiful and new out of it. On the one hand we save waste, on the other hand we create something to enjoy. With a little creativity, the inexhaustible packaging fund becomes something very special.
Can I also use Marabu GREEN paint outdoors (e.g. pots, wood)? Is the paint weatherproof?
After drying and with good adhesion, Marabu GREEN paint is lightfast, weatherproof (after approx. 24 hours), waterproof (after approx. 3 hours). Painted objects (provided the objects themselves are suitable for outdoor use) are therefore also suitable for outdoor use.
In principle, GREEN does not require any after-treatment. It adheres to the substrate after drying without further treatment. To improve the properties of GREEN for outdoor use, the painted objects can be varnished with Marabu varnishes or spray paints.
What surface can I paint with one tube of GREEN?
The yield of the paints depends very much on the application of the paint and the absorbency of the substrate. A guideline for our GREEN colours is approx. 1 sqm per 100 ml of paint.
Can the GREEN be mixed with other colours or media?
We do not recommend mixing GREEN with other paint systems, as acrylic paints, watercolours, acrylic mediums and oil paints, for example, are completely different paint systems.
Are the Marabu GREEN colours vegan?
Our Green consists of 92% raw materials of natural origin and is 100% vegan. Raw materials of animal origin are not used in Marabu GREEN paint. However, the presence of traces of these substances in the product from raw material contamination, from the process or as accidental contamination cannot be excluded.
Does Marabu GREEN paint contain preservatives?
Marabu GREEN paint contains small amounts of preservatives, which are also used, for example, in everyday water-based detergents and cleaning agents, cosmetics or body care products. They prevent the growth of germs and serve to protect the user.
Does the Marabu GREEN paint contain gluten?
Marabu GREEN does not contain gluten as an intentionally added ingredient. As we do not carry out any tests to see if there are any traces due to impurities in the products, as a responsible manufacturer we cannot recommend the products for coeliacs.
Is an alkyd paint at all environmentally friendly?
Marabu GREEN is a water-based alkyd paint. What is new about this paint system is that the alkyd resins made from polyhydric alcohols and natural oils are dissolved in water. This water-based technology enables such a high proportion of 92% of raw materials of natural origin and is therefore a real alternative.
Can a paint based on raw materials of natural origin offer a wide colour spectrum at the same time?
Absolutely! Marabu GREEN guarantees a large repertoire of intensely luminous shades through selected colour pigments.
Why is Marabu GREEN paint made of 92% raw materials of natural origin and not 100%?
In order to maintain and support the properties and safety of the paint, additives and ingredients are also used in the GREEN formulation to ensure that the paint can be used for a long time. These substances are indispensable and are not yet made from raw materials of natural origin.
Doesn't a vegetable oil-based paint quickly become overlaid or even rancid?
Marabu GREEN colours are just as durable and safe as all colours from the Marabu range. The usual high quality can also be achieved with raw materials of natural origin, extensive tests have confirmed this.
Is Marabu GREEN suitable for creating toys?
Our Marabu GREEN is a water-based paint that is not classified as hazardous to human health or the environment. However, like any water-based product, the paint contains small amounts of preservatives, which are also used in water-based detergents, cleaning agents and cosmetic products. We do not recommend it for the design of toys, especially those that are put in the mouth by children. Children can react significantly differently and above all more sensitively to ingredients and it can be assumed that babies and toddlers will suck or even nibble on the painted objects. Of course, Marabu GREEN is suitable for creating decorative objects for the children's room. Marabu GREEN was not developed as a painting colour for children, but it is of course suitable for older children, e.g. for model making.
Is an alkyd paint safe (for children, pets)?
Marabu GREEN was not developed as a paint for children, but it is of course suitable for older children, e.g. for upcycling projects or model making. We do not recommend it for designing toys, especially toys that can be put in children's mouths or chewed on by pets.
What is sustainable about the Marabu GREEN plastic tube?
The GREEN laminate tube has a thinner wall thickness, which reduces the amount of material used by up to 30% compared to a conventional tube. The thin wall thickness allows the tube to be emptied without leaving any residue, so the paint can be used down to the last blob and product waste is significantly reduced. The tube consists of 50% renewable raw materials. Another important point is the recyclability. Since the tube is made of the mono-material HDPE, it is fully recyclable. Tube and lid are 100% recyclable and both components go separately into the yellow bin. In other words, an all-round sustainable concept.
Why should the tube and the lid of the GREEN Tube be separated when disposing of them?
Tube and lid are 100% recyclable but made of different materials. If the two components are separated, both materials can be fed into the correct recycling cycle.
