Marabu Window Color fun & fancy

Simple instructions with guaranteed success:

1. Draw the outlines: place the chosen pattern under clear film (PP or PE) and trace the image with outliner straight from the bottle, leave to dry for 1 - 2 hours. Ensure there are no gaps in the outlines.

2. Paint: fill in the outlines right up to the edge. Leave to dry for 24 hours. The colours look milky at first, but dry clear. Immediately wash out spills on fabric using soap and lukewarm water.

3. Peel off: carefully peel off the picture from the film and stick to the chosen surface. The Window Color image can be removed and reapplied somewhere else. Before removing images that have been in place a while, moisten or warm with a hairdryer, so that they become flexible again.

Crackle Technique

Amazing crackle effects can be achieved with Marabu Crackle Medium. Apply it to a totally dry fun & fancy motif, crackles will develop during the drying process and will give the motif an antique appearance.

Blocked paint tips

If the paint tip becomes blocked, e.g. by dried paint residue, and interferes with the application of Window Color, twist off the tip (ideally over a sink) and remove the blockage with a sharp instrument (e.g. a pin). Do not push too hard – this could cause the tip to break off and cause unnecessary soiling.Discolourations

When Window Color pictures are applied to light-coloured plastic and wood surfaces (e.g. doors, roof windows or caravan windows as well as on PVC and acrylic), the picture might cause discolourations or it might be impossible to remove it.Applying and removing the picture

Window Color clings should only be applied to or removed from the window pane at moderate temperatures, otherwise the picture could tear or become distorted.For purists: Window Color directly on canvas

Beautiful glossy transparent effects can be achieved by applying Window Color directly to a canvas with a white base coat, using a brush or an art knife. This painting technique draws its attraction from the contrast of thicker and thinner paint application – particularly suitable for abstract designs! On the issue of designs: If your chosen design includes circle, wave or line patterns, great results can easily be achieved by using a toothed trowel or a comb.Stain removal

Any Window Color stains on textiles, carpets, etc. have to be removed immediately with soap and warm water. Once dried, the stains will be virtually impossible to remove.Adhesion of the design

When Window Color designs do not cling properly any longer, simply moisten the back of the cling with a little water and it will adhere again perfectly.High-gloss effects for acrylic paintings

Make acrylic paintings shine again by using in combination with the high-gloss, transparent, vinyl-based Window Color paint. Create glossy effects by applying Window Color to the dried Marabu Acrylic paint! Paint the canvas (or any other material) with Basic Acryl and leave to dry. Then simply apply Window Color fun & fancy directly from the bottle (or with a brush) to certain individual colour areas, leave to dry – done! Particularly delicate outlines and embellishments with Marabu Contours & Effects can be achieved with the Marabu metal paint tips which can simply be placed on the plastic tip of the liner tube. Do not use the 0.3 mm tip for Glitter paints as the glitter particles are too large and could clog the tip.Outlines

Ensure that the Window Colour outlines are continuous lines to prevent tearing of the cling when peeling off. If you are short on time, you can carefully fill in the outlines while they are still wet.Storage

The paints should always be closed well and stored in a cool place. Storing the containers upside down is also helpful. Then Window Color is always ready to use, without having to first “tap” the paint to the tip (no bubbles) and the contents can be used to the last drop.Painting with wooden skewers

Is Marabu fun & fancy harmless to health?

According to the consumer test magazine ÖKO-TEST 1/00, Marabu fun & fancy had the best result of all products tested. ÖKO-TEST confirmed to us that Marabu fun & fancy is free from formaldehyde which is suspected of being carcinogenic. What could be the reason for the Marabu fun & fancy clings tearing when they are removed from the window?

It mainly has to be ensured to use enough paint and to extend the paint all the way to the outlines. It is important not to remove the designs from the film before the end of the 24 hour drying period. As the designs adapt to the ambient temperature, they should not be placed or removed during extreme heat or cold. When it is cold, the clings should be warmed up before carefully removing them, e.g. with your hand, a warm damp cloth or a hair dryer (caution!). To improve durability, the clings can also be applied to an adhesive film which will enable you to remove them without problems at any temperature.Jellified fun & fancy

What could be the cause for fun & fancy jellifying?

If the paint has jellified with watery paint on top, the paint was exposed to frost and cannot be use any longer.fun & fancy tip blocked

What can I do when the tip is blocked and Marabu fun & fancy does not flow as normal?

The flow is probably blocked by dried paint residue. We recommend removing the tip and cleaning it from the inside to the outside using e.g. a pin. Please do not push too hard – this is a refillable bottle and the tip might burst.Storing fun & fancy

How can I remove Marabu fun & fancy stains from textiles?

Soiled textiles should immediately (very important!) be washed out by hand using lukewarm water and soft soap. Stubborn stains can be soaked in a floor cleaner solution (e.g. Cif) and then rinsed. Dried stains can possibly not be removed without residue. Why can the Marabu fun & fancy design not be removed from the film?

It is important to let the design dry for 24 hours. You may be using a film that is not suitable for Marabu fun & fancy. Ideal materials are plastic films made of polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP), e.g. the special Marabu painting films or plastic pockets. Which different types of Marabu Window Color film are available?

There are three types of film. If you want to remove the design from the film after drying, you should use PE or PP plastic film, e.g. simple punched pockets or the special Marabu fun & fancy films. For improved durability the designs can be applied to an adhesive film. The colour bonds directly with the film. The design is cut out together with this self-adhesive film and attached e.g. to a window. On flexible film the paint also bonds directly with the film and after cutting out the designs can be used for making pinwheels, mobiles or other creative objects.Paint tips for fun & fancy

Are there special Marabu fun & fancy paint tips for a thinner application of paints or outlines?

Yes. There are special paint tips in 4 different sizes: 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 0.9 mm, where the sizes 0.7 and 0.9 mm are more suitable for applying outline colours. Why do Marabu fun & fancy pictures leave yellow discolourations on a light-coloured door after they are removed?

When Marabu fun & fancy is applied to light-coloured plastic surfaces this can indeed result in discolourations. This is due to the softeners contained in plastics and varnishes which can bond with the paint.fun & fancy designs cannot be removed from wood

Why can fun & fancy clings not be removed from wooden furniture?

This is caused by varnishes or glazes which are often used for treating wood. These can bond with the paint, making it difficult to remove the cling without residue.Storing fun & fancy pictures

What is the best way to store fun & fancy pictures for the next season?

Pictures are best stored in a plastic sleeve. Do not place any paper in between as this could stick to the pictures. Pressure caused by several pictures stacked on top of one another can cause the surface to go dull. Softeners in the films can cause the colour shades White, Crystal clear and Frost to turn yellow. Can fun & fancy also be used for car windows?

Basically, yes. It should be considered, however, that the clings will be subject to extreme weather fluctuations at all times of day and night. This can have an adverse effect on the durability of the clings.Diluting fun & fancy

Is there a diluting agent for fun & fancy?

No. Marabu fun & fancy cannot be diluted e.g. with water. If the paint has thickened, this can be due to frost or due to dried paint residue in used bottles. These can be removed from the paint after taking off the tip.fun & fancy contour liner

Is there an electric contour liner especially for Marabu fun & fancy?

Why does the Marabu fun & fancy paint pull away from the outlines after drying?

If this is the case, the paint was not applied close enough to the outline and not in sufficient quantity. It helps to hold the design up to the light to detect these areas and correct them while the paint is still wet.fun & fancy designs on caravan windows

Can fun & fancy also be used for caravan windows?

Caravan windows are made of plastic, not of glass, and have to be treated with care. Depending on the type of plastic, e.g. acrylic glass or perspex, the clings can fuse with the plastic and become very difficult to remove, similar to flexible films for pinwheels or mobiles. To facilitate removal, pre-treat the clings with a moist, warm cloth and remove carefully using a blunt object. We generally recommend applying the designs to adhesive film, though. Can Marabu fun & fancy be combined with other Window Color paints?

Marabu fun & fancy are a stand-alone product with their own formulation. We can provide no guarantee that Marabu Window Color paints can be combined or mixed with paints from other manufacturers, e.g. outline and filler paints might not bond. Why are there fine cracks in the paint on the film after Marabu fun & fancy has dried?

These could be tension cracks caused by very uneven paint application (bumps). Do not place the tip directly on the film when painting, always guide it just above the film. Otherwise the already applied paint could be pushed aside, resulting in cracks. Do not try to speed up the drying time of 24 hours by using a hair dryer or placing the film on a radiator.Transporting and selling fun & fancy at low temperatures

What are the guidelines for transporting and selling fun & fancy at low temperatures?

The paint adapts to the temperature, i.e. when it is cold the paint will harden and can break immediately when bent. For transport, the clings should therefore be kept "warm and solid", e.g. in a reinforced, padded envelope.fun & fancy designs on window roofs

Why is it so difficult to remove fun & fancy clings from roof windows?

On roof windows, the window clings are often completely unprotected against the sun which causes them to dry out. We recommend applying the designs to adhesive film.fun & fancy designs on roof windows with blackout blinds

Can Marabu fun & fancy designs be applied to roof windows with blackout blinds?

Blackout blinds on roof windows usually have a reflective coating. Permanent sun influence – particularly during the summer months – and a lack of air circulation between blind the glazing can generate an excessive amount of heat. This heat accumulation can cause the Marabu fun & fancy designs to liquefy so that drops might stain objects below the window in extreme cases. We therefore do not recommend applying window clings to roof windows with blackout blinds.
